Data scientist, cyber security specialist, developer… When we think about the professions of the future, we often think about new technology. But rarely do we hear anyone talking about the career with a brilliant future that involves the person in charge of carefully placing flowers on a yacht and ensuring that they are facing towards the north, or getting an empty apartment in the world’s tallest tower – the Burj Khalifa in Dubai – ready following a house move involving three different countries, as well as making sure the pantry and the wine cellar are well stocked. This is what the daily tasks of a Personal Angel, or personal assistant in the private sector, look like – taking care of the necessities that the lifestyles of the wealthy and their families require.  And there are many of them: following the start of the pandemic, the number of multimillionaires grew to over 3000 in 2020 (13.4% more than in 2019) according to Wealth-X, a company dedicated to research about the 1%.

How does one attend to their requests? What is required in order to manage villas in several locations, that belong to a client and their family: people who are constantly travelling, very socially exposed and that value even the smallest of details? Well, there is a school that trains those who take care of all these things.

It has opened recently and was brought to life by Lourdes Carbó, founder of Alberta La Grup, a Spanish company that is specialised in luxury services and concierge in high-end residential buildings, and an expert in the industry with over 15 years of experience.  “We don’t manage tasks or request, but rather values such as people’s time, information and emotions. We worked out that there are 137 skills and capabilities required to be a Personal Angel and those are the areas that we train our students in.” says Carbó.

In the school, named The Lifestyle Institute, there are two editions of the Postgraduate Course per year, one in spring and one in autumn, each one lasting for three months (240 teaching hours). Their 22 modules are far from what you would study in a typical university or business school: Mega Yacht Management, Sociology of Luxury, The Value of Time, How to Start an Art Collection, The Universe of Flowers, Philanthropy… Collaborating partners such as NetJets, the leading company in private jet rental, run some of them. The third edition of the Postgraduate course will begin in October.

The objective is to understand how the super rich think, how they eat, what kind of events they want to go to and what their lifestyle is like. 80% of the course is practical and the training is online (with live classes)  – there are even students in Mexico and South Africa. The last week of the course takes place in person, either in Barcelona or Madrid, with future plans to travel to London, Singapore or other destinations.

The Postgraduate course costs 7,500 euros plus VAT and the Lifestyle Institute has grants available to all students for different specializations, depending on their needs. It also includes job opportunities as the school has reached agreements with several international recruitment agencies such as IMA, a global network for international personal assistants.

¡Tenemos algo que contarte! IMA- International Management Assistants, en su objetivo constante de otorgar las mejores oportunidades de proyección profesional para sus asociados, ha visto en la oferta formativa de The Lifestyle Institute una plataforma diferenciadora.

Abuse of Power Masterclass in which we were pioneers is expanding to other areas

TLI, together with Stacey Pinkerton, promoter of the #MeToo global movement, was the first platform to give a voice to the social stigma surrounding abuse of power within the PA profession. We are therefore very proud to inform you that the project doesn’t stop there! This September, our dear Stacey Pinkerton has also taken part in the Heads Together forum, with Bonnie Low-Kramen (former PA of actress Olympia Dukakis). Not only that, but we will soon start to work with the IMA (International Management Assistants) Association to put together another great session. More and more professional are becoming aware of this problem within our sector, as well as the importance of discussing and tackling it. Thank you Stacey for trusting us as the pioneers of this Masterclass, as well as opening the discussion and (finally!) uncovering what happens in the cases of crossing the line and abuse of power.

As well as the Masterclass, we are also committed to creating the initiative of an Ethics Committee, with the objective of providing support to the Personal Angels, exercising the tight to support in any abusive situation.

The sessions on abuse of power describe, along general lines, what the PA profession involves, what to do in influential environments in which professional ethics are implied, how to resolve issues and plan ahead to prevent any possible consequences.

For the first time, TLI will train future Family Office managers

The Lifestyle Institute will train future Family Office managers in Lifestyle, the investment platforms for large wealth. Personal Angels are professionals at the service of families with great wealth. Therefore, anticipating your needs with practical solutions is essential. And this course helps define such important topics as the family strategic plan, family roles, financial planning, asset control and real estate investments. We will be delighted to be there and share our knowledge with the students.

It is the first time that we have been invited to be part of such a project, and we are given the opportunity to train in Lifestyle at Family Office managers training programme. For this reason, we would like to thank Manuel Pavón and the Nexia Institute for inviting us to collaborate in this course aimed at members of business families who wish to establish their own Family Office, directors of Family Offices, advisors, lawyers and consultants, among others. TLI founder Lourdes Carbó will be there as a teacher! The training will be from September 27 to 30 in Barcelona (or streaming)

The course is called “Create, plan and organize the Family Office”, and its objective is to provide the knowledge, necessary skills and abilities to organize and manage the complex reality of family assets. Who is it for? For members of business families who wish to establish their own Family Office, directors of Family Offices, advisers, lawyers and consultants, among others. TLI founder Lourdes Carbó will be there as a teacher!

On July 17 there was an official Diploma awarding ceremony of the II Edition of the Postgraduate of The Lifestyle Institute. From the hand of the teachers of our school, students received the certificate that accredits their training at The Lifestyle Institute and in addition to a photo book and a video-candidacy recording; they also enjoyed coaching sessions, Public Speaking, a visit to a yacht, a beauty experience and a flower workshop;.

All of them are now part of this minority group of Elite PA professionals and our PowerPA community and they are ready to ‘spread their wings’. Congratulations!

Our students had a full day in Barcelona, where they enjoyed a group session with our coach Janina Messeguer; a Public Speaking session given by Pedro J. Utrera; a beauty and personal care experience at Light Bar led by Amira Shuaibi; a visit to a docked yacht in the Barcelona Heartbreath port -guided by Pep Montoya-, and a flower workshop inspired by Xavier Montardit. All of them, TLI lecturers.

To top it off, the students were able to work on their personal photo book and on a video-candidacy for international recruitment agenciesas as part of our differentiating pack from our former alumni.
