Time management is what we love the most; you could even say it is our reason for being. You only need to ask what a Personal Angel really does to discover that we are all about managing other people’s time. As we have discussed in our previous editorials, the PAs job is to manage the personal lives of their clients, with the aim of making sure that they can dedicate their time to what is truly important to them. Without further ado, we would like to confess what we have been up to in the last month (in those few spare moments that we have in between the daily hustle and bustle…). Several of the team members at TLI have selected an object (just one per person) that we would keep in a ‘time capsule’. Why? To store a message from the present moment to share with future generations, or even with ourselves in many years ‘time. Want to take a look before we close it? Now is the time!

A blank sheet of paper

“I started my professional career before the Internet existed. Personal Assistance was totally different, and almost inexistent, at least in the way that it exists today. Everything now is more immediate, agile, and we can solve more things… And it is fascinating. But, for me, as someone who comes from that transition between analogue and digital, I feel grateful to have been able to experience both periods.”
“The future seems to be more intangible, digital and technological than before. And that’s why I believe a blank sheet of paper, of good quality, a high paper grade and with that perfect white colouring… I believe that would bring back special memories for other professional PAs that want to travel back to the past, to review or learn from how we solved thing before. And a pen that allows you to put together your ideas, tasks, messages… There’s nothing like that!”
It’s strange for me to imagine how a future without those two things would look… Would we stop doing calligraphy? What would happen to graphologists? Would that disappear? And paper… After so much recycling and trying to transition to 0 paper, I feel like rebelling and deciding that I, whatever the case may be, will always keep paper for writing… And pens, pencils, felt-tips, ink to express myself, just like you will find flooding my work desk right now.”

A book

A portal that takes you back in time

“It is a bit difficult, since I always say to students that if they have to walk away from my class with one single thought to remember, it is that luxury is always changing depending on consumers ever-changing values and desires. What was a luxury yesterday may not be one tomorrow. In addition, we live more than ever in a fragmented marketplace with many status groups co-exiting together, with many corresponding luxuries, not universally recognized. That said, it is a bridge to aspiration, so if I can be a bit more abstract, then maybe a portal?”
A mobile phone

A clock with a mirror (and my letter below)

Dear friend! Your time is limited! Look in the mirror, see yourself! Who are you? Compare yourself only with your previous version. Don’t let other people define you. You need to define yourself- and you can, if you know how! This is an internal journey. I’m trying to help you transform your thinking from weakness to strength, to your beauty. You’ve got to believe in yourself, to be motivated about you. You’ve got to focus on you. Without you, nothing works”.
A fountain pen

“Why do I choose such a vintage object? First of all, precisely because it’s vintage. Because the pen has always been a symbol linked to journalism. The pen was (and still is) an element linked to the person who writes, who communicates… … However, although it is still a hallmark of the profession, it is something that is being lost little by little in the digital age, where we write everything on our mobile phone, leaving behind those times where the columnist or chronicler was no one without his pen, or pencil … Also, the pen has always been a sign of distinction, class, taste… It has never been extinguished! It represents the value of handwriting and transports us to the past, when it was not only important to know how to write, but also the charisma a good fountain pen gave you. And in that sense, means it is still considered a collector’s piece for many, in addition to the artistic component that it brings with each stroke. Will it continue to be that way?”
A letter explaining today’s world

“I would write a letter to explain how marvellous today’s world is, and include many photos that would allow them to see all the natural wonders that we have. I would ask the people inhabiting the planet at that time to try to respect and protect the little that will remain for them”.
A letter for our future self

“If I have to choose an object related to my subject (Management Skills) that I would keep in a time capsule, I would choose a letter for our future self. In the letter I would reflect on growth mind set and the four strategic axes of leadership: balance, influence, training and strategy. And I would pose personal challenges, such as a kind of pact with ourselves, to achieve excellence in time management, team coordination, negotiation and project management. All this from a digital humanism point of view, always putting people (thus, customers) at the center, to get the best experience.
For sure it will be very interesting to open the box and read the letter years later
to reflect on how we evolved and grew in all these points over time!”
A blank book

“The object in my time capsule is a book. A book even when blank gives you the potential to use your voice, tell your story, and gives power to the reader to use their imagination and above all share knowledge. It shines transparency and a light on someone to stop transgressing of a boundary that should not have over stepped. Knowledge is power, once we have learned these tools we have the power to set boundaries, and not let others abuse their power. This book gives you the knowledge to find out how someone acquired their power which can help you to identify when someone else is attempting to take your power away, so you can find strength and resources to take action and stop them.
This book gives you the courage to not be exploited or harmed by the ill will or abuse of power, meaning a capacity of exerting ones will on others possibly by having more strength, more education or higher social position and from weapons to wealth detecting the red flags of groomers who gain trust that others confide in only to abuse later even those who create enablers. This book guides you to be able to have control of your potential, to be the best that you can be with confidence and how we as a whole can be. Once we have the confidence the right spirit, and support we create our future and good leadership. This book is my class on Abuse of Power in a nutshell”.
A classical sculpture

“I would keep with me a classical sculpture: Antinous, because for me it is the paradigm of beauty and perfection, it brings me pleasure and is like being in paradise. Another possibility is The Dance by Matisse because this canvas is life itself, joy, and reminds me of my land, Catalunya, because they are dancing a ‘sardana’”.

La cápsula del tiempo de TLI

La idea de la gestión del tiempo nos conmueve. Es más, me atrevería a decir que es nuestra razón de ser. No hay más que hacerse una pregunta: ¿a qué se dedica fundamentalmente un Personal Angel? A la administración del tiempo de otros. Como hemos mencionado en editoriales anteriores, en el PA recae la diligencia de la vida personal de su cliente, con el objetivo de que éste pueda dedicarse a lo que verdaderamente desea ocupar su existencia. Sin más dilación, te vamos a confesar lo que hemos estado haciendo durante este último mes (en los escasos espacios para pensar que nos deja nuestro quehacer diario…) Varios miembros del equipo de TLI hemos seleccionado un objeto (sólo uno cada uno) que guardaríamos en una ‘cápsula del tiempo’. ¿Con qué fin? Salvaguardar un mensaje del presente a nuestras próximas generaciones; o incluso a nosotros mismos dentro de muchos años. ¿Quieres echarle un vistazo a nuestra cápsula antes de cerrarla? ¡Es el momento!
Una hoja de papel en blanco

“Yo me inicié en el mundo profesional cuando no había Internet. La asistencia personal era totalmente diferente, y casi inexistente, como lo es en la actualidad. Todo es más inmediato, ágil, podemos resolver más… Y es fascinante. Sin embargo, para mí, que soy una persona de esa era de transición de lo analógico a lo digital, me siento afortunada de conocer ambas épocas”.
“El futuro parece más intangible, digital y tecnológico que antes. Y, por esa razón, creo que una hoja de papel en blanco, de buena calidad, de gramaje alto, de tintada blanca impoluta… marcará recuerdos especiales para otros profesionales PA que vuelvan al pasado, para revisar o aprender de cómo lo resolvíamos antes. Y un bolígrafo que permita plasmar tus ideas, tareas, mensajes… ¡no hay nada igual!”
“Me resulta curioso imaginar cómo será el futuro sin estos dos elementos… ¿dejaremos de practicar la caligrafía? ¿qué pasará con la profesión de grafólogo? ¿desaparecerá? Y el papel… Tanta práctica de reciclar y pasar al ‘papel 0’, me hace sentirme rebelde y decidir que yo, sea como sea, siempre conservaré papel para escribir… Y bolígrafos, rotuladores, lápices, tinta para expresarme, tal y cómo ahora inunda mi mesa de trabajo”.
“¡Papel y bolígrafo, sí! ¡Tecnología, sí! Sí a ambos… ¡Sí a todo!”.
Un libro

Un portal que te hace retroceder en el tiempo

“Es un poco difícil, ya que siempre les digo a los estudiantes que, si tienen que alejarse de mi clase con un solo pensamiento para recordar, es que el lujo siempre está cambiando, dependiendo de los valores y deseos siempre volubles de los consumidores. Lo que ayer fue lujo puede no serlo mañana… Además, vivimos en un mercado más fragmentado que nunca con muchos grupos de estatus que coexisten juntos… Dicho esto, es un puente hacia la aspiración. Por ello, si puedo ser un poco más abstracta, ¿entonces tal vez un portal?
Un teléfono móvil

Un reloj con un espejo (y un mensaje)

Veronika deja el siguiente mensaje a quien abra la cápsula dentro de unos años: “¡Querido amigo!¡Tu tiempo es limitado! ¡Mírate en el espejo, mírate a ti mismo! ¿Quién eres? Compárate sólo con el anterior. No dejes que otras personas te definan. Necesitas definirte a ti mismo, ¡y puedes, si sabes cómo! Éste es un viaje interno. Estoy tratando de ayudarte a transformar tu pensamiento de debilidad a fortaleza, a tu belleza… Tienes que creer en ti mismo, estar motivado por ti. Tienes que centrarte en ti. Sin ti, nada funciona”.
Una pluma

“¿Por qué escojo un objeto tan vintage? En primer lugar, precisamente por eso. Porque la pluma siempre ha sido un símbolo unido al ejercicio del Periodismo. La pluma era (y todavía es) un elemento ligado al individuo que escribe, que comunica… Sin embargo, aunque no deja de ser un distintivo de la profesión, es algo que se está perdiendo poco a poco en la era digital, donde todo lo anotamos en el teléfono móvil, dejando atrás esos tiempos donde el articulista y/o cronista no era nadie sin su pluma, o bolígrafo o lápiz… Además, la pluma siempre ha sido un signo de distinción, de clase, de gusto… ¡Jamás se ha extinguido! Representa el valor de la escritura a mano y nos transporta al pasado, cuando no sólo era importante saber escribir sino también el carisma de que te otorgaba una buena pluma estilográfica. Y en ese aspecto, su atractivo perdura siendo pieza de coleccionismo para muchos, además del componente artístico que proporciona su trazo. ¿Seguirá siendo así?”.
Una carta explicando el mundo de hoy

“Escribo una carta explicando lo maravilloso que es el mundo a día de hoy, con muchas fotos que permitan ver todas las riquezas naturales que tenemos, y pido a los que habiten el planeta en ese momento que intenten respetar y proteger lo poco que les quedará a ell@s”.
Una carta para nuestro yo futuro

“Elijo una carta para nuestro yo futuro. En la carta reflexiono sobre la mentalidad de crecimiento y los cuatro ejes estratégicos del liderazgo: equilibrio, influencia, formación y estrategia. Y me planteo retos personales, como una especie de pacto con nosotros mismos, para alcanzar la excelencia en la gestión del tiempo, la coordinación de equipos, la negociación y la gestión de proyectos. Todo ello desde un punto de vista humanista digital, poniendo siempre a las personas (clientes) en el centro, para conseguir la mejor experiencia. ¡Seguro que será muy interesante abrir la caja y leer la carta años después para reflexionar sobre cómo evolucionamos y crecimos en todos estos puntos a lo largo del tiempo!”.
Un libro en blanco

“El objeto en mi cápsula del tiempo es un libro. Un libro, incluso en blanco, te da el potencial de usar tu voz, contar tu historia y le da poder al lector para usar su imaginación y, sobre todo, compartir conocimientos… Una luz sobre alguien para que deje de transgredir un límite que no debería haberse sobrepasado. El conocimiento es poder. Una vez que hemos aprendido estas herramientas, tenemos el poder de establecer límites y no dejar que otros abusen de su poder. Este libro te brinda el conocimiento para descubrir cómo alguien adquirió su poder, lo que puede ayudarlo a identificar cuándo otra persona está tratando de quitárselo, para que encuentre su fuerza y recursos para tomar medidas y detenerlos. Además, este libro te da el coraje para no ser perjudicado por el abuso de poder, es decir, una capacidad de ejercer nuestra voluntad sobre los demás (…) Además, te guía para poder tener el control de tu potencial, para ser lo mejor que puedas ser con confianza y cómo puedes ser tú mismo como un todo. Una vez que tienes la confianza, el espíritu correcto y el apoyo, creas tu futuro y un buen liderazgo. En definitiva, y en pocas palabras, este libro es mi clase sobre el abuso de poder”.
Una escultura clásica

“Me quedaría conmigo una escultura clásica: ‘Antinoo’, porque para mí es el paradigma de la belleza y la perfección y es como estar en el paraíso. Otra posibilidad es ‘La danza’ (de Matisse) porque este lienzo es la vida misma, la alegría, y me recuerda a mi tierra, Catalunya, porque están bailando una sardana”.
